If you are a US citizen planning to visit India, you will need to obtain an India Visa. Just like nationals of other countries must have a visa to enter the United States, Americans must have a visa to enter several other countries. Below you will find information about the different visas available to eligible Americans wanting to visit India.

Tourists

The Visa for tourism in India is issued to travelers who enter India temporarily for tourism, sightseeing, visit family/friend or other private purposes. The India tourist visa is valid for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or 10 years with multiple entries. 10 years India visa for tourists is available only to US citizens.

For Business

The Visa for Business in India is issued to foreigners who enter India for business visit, research, possess signed business contracts or visit companies or make commercial contacts. India business visa valid for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or 10 years with multiple entries. A 10 years multiple entry business visa is available only to foreigner who have set up or intend to set up joint ventures in India.

For Students

The visa for Students in India is issued to foreigners who enter India for study, advanced studies.

For Transit

The Visa for India Transit is issued to foreigners for the sole purpose of enabling the holder to travel through India to reach his/her ultimate destination. Change of purpose is not allowed. If the individual plans to stay in India beyond 3 days, an appropriate visa should be obtained.

For Employment

The Visa for Employment in India is issued to foreigners enter India for employment. Duration of visa would depend on the period of the contract.

The India Transfer Visa is a valid visa from expired U.S. passport to your new U.S. passport.
